What we are
Top Scot Trades is a curated directory of Scotland's highest-rated tradespeople. Every listing meets a minimum 4.5★ customer rating and is ranked by review count and average score. The top 5 in each trade × city combination gets a dedicated page; the rest sit in the full directory.
Listings are free, and free to browse — no signup, no data collection beyond what's needed for the submission and claim forms. The directory itself stays open. Over time we may add optional paid features for trades who want them (think enhanced profiles, a customer-message inbox, that sort of thing) — but those will never affect where a business ranks.
How we rank
We rank by review-driven reputation. Every listing meets a minimum 4.5★ standard, and the top 5 in each trade × location is ordered by a weighted combination of average rating and total review count — so consistent strong ratings beat a handful of perfect ones.
Every quarter we refresh the rankings. If a top-5 business slips below 4.5★ or shuts down, they're removed and the next-best business slides in. Badges already earned remain valid (a 2026 Top 5 award doesn't get retroactively revoked) — the ranking is for the current period only.
Who runs this
Top Scot Trades is built and run by Get A Trades Website — a Scotland-based company that builds websites for tradespeople from £99. We disclose this upfront because trust matters, and we'd rather you knew the relationship than discover it later.
The two sites benefit each other but stay editorially independent. The Top Scot Trades ranking is based purely on review-driven reputation — being a GATW customer doesn't get you a higher ranking, and not being one doesn't lose you the spot. The full methodology is published above so anyone can verify the calls.
Why GATW customers get auto-listed
If we build a tradesperson's website, they automatically get a Top Scot Trades listing — regardless of their current customer rating. It's a perk of being a GATW customer. They don't automatically get into the Top 5 (that's still 4.5★+ rating-based), but they get the directory entry, the badge eligibility once they hit the rating threshold, and the backlink to their site.

The promise
Rankings are not for sale. No paid placements. No fake reviews. Position is earned through real customer rating data, refreshed every quarter — that's the part that stays incorruptible no matter how the site evolves.
