"I chose Ultimate Home Solutions to carry out a full rip-out and replacement of a particularly small tenement bathroom in a top-floor Edinburgh flat. The property is around 150 years old, so it comes with certain quirks. The finished bathroom itself is largely good and I’m happy with the overall look of the room. However, the process and aftercare have been disappointing, especially for a job costing around £9,000. There were several issues after completion. Sealant was missing/incomplete around the shower tray/screen interface, causing water to seep out after showers. I raised this over the phone, and during the post-install visit, but later had to chase it again as it did not appear to have been recorded or followed up. The bathroom door was also a major issue. The original door was removed during the work, but no replacement was fitted when the job was treated as complete. I was left for 7 weeks with no bathroom door, despite the survey/plan showing a new door was included. The eventual solution involved moving a door from another part of the flat and fitting a reclaimed/undersized door elsewhere, which still leaves finishing work and is not what I would expect from a professional bathroom installation. There were also smaller issues around the window, which was not covered/sealed in the way I understood had been discussed, and a shaver socket was shown on the plan but not supplied, so the fitters could not install it. I have since discussed this with UHS and decided not to go ahead with any further work here. The cost of the shaver socket was removed from the final bill. In all fairness, and the reason for 2*, the main bathroom finish is good and the fitters were pleasant. However, the communication, snagging process and handling of the door issue have left a bad impression. For the price paid, I expected a smoother process and better follow-up after the installation. If your job is simple, I think UHS may be a reasonable contractor/project manager. In my case, I chose them despite a higher price than competitors because of their strong public reviews and because I expected the quirks of an older property to be properly handled. Unfortunately, that was not my experience."
